Job Description
The Cypress Grove Land Steward lives on site at the Cypress Grove Research Center (CGRC) outside of
Marshall, CA, and manages the physical operations at CGRC and Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Tomales Bay properties. Duties include planning and implementing maintenance of buildings, facilities, infrastructure and utilities, roads, trails, and landscaping, weed and erosion control, stewardship, vehicles and vessel, marine operations, and sourcing and collecting supplies from local vendors. Duties are completed in consultation and collaboration with the Preserve Manager and the resident Director of Conservation Science.
  • Provides day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of physical resources including buildings, facilities, infrastructure and utility systems, landscaping, road and trail systems, vehicles, vessel, hand and power tools.
  • Manages rolling maintenance schedule.
  • Identifies and defines project needs and plans, designs, and oversees/completes projects.
  • Maintains the Preserve water system, including well, pumps, irrigation, water treatment system,leech fields, water tank, and pipes.
  • Coordinates contractor activities including defining projects, acquiring bids, and project oversight.
  • Prepares facilities for education, development, and community events in collaboration with others.
  • Ensures that safety standards are followed, conducts regular safety inspections, and reports all safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Helps to provide Preserve security.
  • Purchases and picks up supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains shop, tools, equipment, vehicles/boats/trailers, etc.
  • Assists in natural resources management, monitoring projects, and conservation science research projects on Tomales Bay and ACR’s Tomales Bay properties.
  • Consults regularly with Director of Conservation Science and Preserve Manager regarding facilities needs and priorities, safety improvements, and security issues.
  • Collaborates with other ACR Land Stewards on projects at other ACR Preserves.
  • Other duties as assigned.
