The current vacancies are in various locations throughout the County. The list developed from this recruitment will be used for a limited period to fill open and promotional, regular full-time, and part-time positions in a variety of locations throughout the County, should they occur. Pursuant to current bargaining unit agreements, employees regularly assigned to the coastal region or in Covelo are eligible to receive a 5% assignment premium.
Under supervision, performs work of routine difficulty. Examples of the work include: assisting patrons; checking library materials in and out; shelving books and maintaining materials; and general clerical duties.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Diagnose problems, perform repairs, road test, and complete paperwork associated with repairs; perform unscheduled repair of equipment and vehicles.
- Perform maintenance and repair work on automobiles, trucks, tractors, graders, dozers, gas and diesel engines, and other related equipment.
- Develop special replacement and innovative parts for new and rebuilt equipment.
- Repair equipment in the field as necessary.
- Inspect, trouble-shoot, and overhaul transmissions, electrical systems, cooling systems, valves, pistons, hydraulic lifts, carburetors, and other related systems.
- Perform safety checks on light, heavy, and related equipment.
- Perform routine or special maintenance and repair work on air hammers, water pumps, weed eaters, generators, and various other pieces of light equipment.
- Assist in the relocation or transportation of light and heavy equipment to various service locations.
- Perform routine lubrications and other service-related duties as required.
- Perform routine maintenance around the shop and service area as required.
- Attend seminars and classes on the maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Review and research services and repair manuals.
- Maintain files and records pertaining to individual work load.
- Enter daily repair and maintenance activity and use of inventory into computer system.
- Maintain inventory of parts, equipment, and supplies.
- Answer telephone and respond to questions or takes messages as appropriate.
- Perform body and fender repair work, including welding, cutting, painting, and various other procedures.
- Prepare requisitions for equipment replacement of parts and maintenance supplies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school and at least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience related to the maintenance of heavy and light equipment and vehicles; or
An equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class C Driver's License, with attainment of a valid Commercial Class B Driver's License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsement within six (6) months of appointment.
Knowlege, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods, practices, materials, and tools of the light and heavy equipment and vehicle mechanical trade.
- Operation and repair characteristics of a wide variety of light and heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Safety precautions and hazards as they relate to equipment maintenance and repair.
- Gasoline and diesel engines and their operations.
- Practices, methods, and tools of the welding and blacksmith trades.
- Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods, and records management techniques.
- All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
Skill in:
- Using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Using mathematics.
- The use and care of the tools and equipment utilized in the performance of the essential functions of the job.
- The use of computers and diagnostic equipment to perform repairs.
Mental and Physical Abilities:
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy.
- Diagnose and repair a wide variety of equipment.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.
- Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to: walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; speak and hear; and push, pull, move, or lift above and below the neck objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, lift, and/or move more than 100 pounds.
