Fish & Wildlife Monitoring Technician II $4,520 - $5,492/Monthly Apply by 8/28/2019

Working in the Environmental Resources section, this position will focus on fish, wildlife ecology, and environmental science monitoring and surveying.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Installing, operating, and maintaining passive integrated transponder (PIT) detection systems, video monitoring systems, and electronic data loggers
  • Conducting fish surveys via electrofishing, snorkeling, spawner techniques, fish trapping, and instream and terrestrial habitat surveying
  • Sampling of water quality and invertebrates
  • Supporting and assisting staff in the development, implementation, and management of fish and wildlife population, and habitat monitoring programs
  • Collecting and compiling data
  • Coordinating Sonoma Water project activities, which may include leading one or more entry-level staff

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to train and lead workers in the field; strong communication skills to develop effective working relationships with internal and external colleagues; and experience:

  • Installing and maintaining PIT antennas, video equipment, and other electronic data loggers used for remote data collection
  • Working on fish and wildlife biological or ecological projects, and monitoring or surveying for water-related programs
  • Using equipment common to field activities in fish and wildlife biology, freshwater (rivers and streams) ecology, estuarine ecology, and water quality
  • Performing basic research associated with fish and wildlife studies (including population and habitat surveys)
