Job Summary:
The Yard Specialist/Material Handler receives and documents deliveries for the HVAC, Plumbing and Service Departments and maintains stock and supplies in the shop and yard. The position is also charged with secure lock down of the facility daily. Depending on workload, this position may also coordinate with other employees to accomplish the duties and responsibilities. Pay is $20 to $25
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Shipping and Receiving
1. Creates detailed material lists to maintain shop stock and submits to Purchasing
2. Receives materials and checks for accuracy; inspects and verifies, noting damages or shortages
3. Tags and stages items and materials
4. Receives and fills tool orders from Field or Fab Shop
5. Coordinates and maintains standards for tools; affixes identification on tools, ladders and toolboxes
6. Itemizes and processes returns; provides list to Purchasing for refunds
7. Maintains receiving records
8. Receives and stages UPS/FedEx deliveries
9. Moves and stages materials and equipment in the yard
10. Restocks returned tools, hardware and other stock items
11. Moves, stores and handles prefabricated items as directed by Fab Shop Foreman
12. Drives delivery truck with deliveries or pick-ups as a back-up
13. Serves as the direct contact for all deliveries to the Shop
14. Other duties as assigned
Maintenance
1. Supports delivery and yard truck maintenance and operational inspections; keeps cabs of delivery and yard trucks clean, inside and out
2. Performs daily inspection for forklift maintenance
3. Refuels delivery trucks
4. Maintains job boxes
5. Organizes yard; monitors and prepares for inclement weather
6. Performs yard clean-up; empties trash cans; disposes of dunnage and pallets; keeps supply areas neat and organized
Facilities
1. Maintains company yard “5 S Program.” Updates company informational bulletin boards bi-monthly
2. Provides general housekeeping and maintenance
3. Maintains facility in organized and safe condition; creates storage areas for like items and label
4. Administers facility programs including, but not limited to: safety, emergency, fire, and lock-out tag-out
5. Maintains 8th Street East (both 21819 and 21800) fire protection system and rented fab shop
6. Acquires CUPA, Fire Marshal inspection/permit, propane tank and air compressor certifications
7. Manages weekly garbage/recycling redistribution
8. Manages contractors for landscaping, electrical modifications, recycling, fire pump and tank maintenance, exhaust fans, time clocks, well pump, vehicle repairs and maintenance
9. Assists with all site construction modifications
10. Oversees yard and building security, including gate access
11. Manages tool inventory
12. Acts as back-up for building shut down and lock up
13. Completes special projects and light construction as required
14. Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties
1. Assists with plumbing or HVAC shop fabrication when needed
Essential Qualifications:
1. HS diploma or equivalent
2. 1-3 years’ experience in a shop or warehouse position
3. General knowledge of the construction industry
4. Computer literacy in office communication programs: MS Word, Outlook, Tablet/iPad
5. Ability to effectively communicate with staff and suppliers
6. Strong attention to detail
7. Valid driver’s license with clean DMV record and ability to travel the Bay Area
Preferred Job Qualifications:
1. Training and/or certifications in construction safety, forklift training, defensive driving, etc.
2. Advances knowledge of construction industry
3. Mechanical aptitude
ADA Specifications:
Frequent bending, walking, carrying and lifting; some sitting for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity required for computer and programming work. Frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs. Driving. Office and outdoor construction environment. Must be able to wear work boots and perform ladder work. Some exposure to cold, heat, weather, sun. Construction site noise level.
