Community Outreach and Marketing Coordinator Purpose The Community Outreach Coordinator, under the supervision of the Communications and Marketing Manager, provides support for all of SMART’s public outreach, marketing and communications programs. Description The Community Outreach and Marketing Coordinator will assist with creating and implementing programs to increase awareness of SMART including: the development and implementation of effective social media and digital programs; assisting the Communications and Marketing Manager on marketing programs and materials; developing high-quality content for both online and printed materials; coordinating multiple projects and events; and other associated tasks. The Community Outreach and Marketing Coordinator may also serve as the agency representative for assigned projects, which includes responding to public inquiries, assisting with outreach meetings and events and coordinating activities and reports related to SMART’s rail and bicycle/pedestrian project.Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by, and minimum requirements required of, employees in the class. Develops social media and digital programs and content to increase public awareness and promote the agency’s overall goals and mission. Works directly with the Communications and Marketing manager in the development of marketing programs, materials and collateral. Coordinates assigned community outreach meetings, which includes creating and coordinating all publications, advertisements in local publications and attending events as the SMART representative and responding to project related questions. Works with the Communications and Marketing Manager on marketing programs, outreach events, informational materials, advertisements, and displays; Preparation of agendas and presentation materials for community outreach meetings, special events and public hearings as needed. Assists in the scheduling, negotiating cost and purchasing of media space and time. Preparation or facilitation of responses to public questions and correspondence. May participate in meetings and promotions on weekends and evenings; Performs related work as required.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Qualifications: Sufficient training, education and experience to demonstrate the required knowledge skills and abilities. Typically, a Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications or a related field. A minimum of three years of professional experience in marketing, public relations, communications or a related field, or an equivalent thereof. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required at the time of appointment. Skill in: Social and digital media programs Interpreting and applying oral and written instructions in a consistent manner. Computer usage including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Email).Public speaking and oral presentations. Working with the general public as well as public agencies and officials.Knowledge of: Principles, methods and techniques of effective public communications, public relations, marketing communications and community outreach; Principles and techniques of preparing advertising, writing copy, layout and production. Standard English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Techniques for making effective presentations to individuals and groups. Techniques for preparing effective written and audio-visual materials. Ability to: Effectively and efficiently organize, establish priorities, and set goals and objectives. Use initiative and creativity in developing programs and content. Develop a solutions-oriented approach to problems. Compile and analyze data from a variety of sources to draft materials. Communicate ideas and concepts through creative writing and through presentations to large and small groups. Make effective presentations to individuals and groups of varying ages, interests and backgrounds. Draft, edit and proofread written materials for publication. Plan and organize outreach and promotional activities. Use sound independent judgment within general policy and procedural guidelines. Complete multiple assignments efficiently and meet established deadlines in a fast paced team environment. Prepare clear and accurate reports, correspondence and other written materials. Assist in the development and implementation of responses to community concerns related to SMART projects. Operate a personal computer proficiently and learn specialty software. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in written form. Work collaboratively and effectively with other divisions and co-workers. Maintain accurate records and files. Physical Working Environment Work is usually performed in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. May occasionally be exposed to extreme weather conditions, uneven terrain and noise when working at events. May need to attend meetings outside of normal working hours at various locations Physical Requirements: During the performance of the daily, weekly and monthly activities, this position may require prolonged periods in a stationary position, movement about the inside of an office, positioning self in various stances or postures in the performance of daily activities; This position may require repetitive operation using a computer keyboard or calculator involving repetitive motion of the wrists, hands or fingers; This position may require both near and far visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and/or extensive reading; This position may require expressing or exchanging information by means of the spoken word when dealing with clients, customers, or other employees; This position may require perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. The need to lift, drag, and push files, boxes, equipment, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is also required. Ability to speak is required for making oral presentations. The need to lift up to 50 pounds is also required. May occasionally be exposed to extreme weather conditions and noise when working at events. Position Details: Salary Range: $33.97 - $41.29 per hour FLSA Status: Non-exempt A thorough background check will be required including, but not limited to: current and past employers, personal contacts, education verification.
