City Editor
The Press Democrat, winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting, is seeking a city editor to elevate our digital and print news report. We are a locally owned newspaper that values original ideas, aggressive reporting, authoritative writing, watchdog coverage that leads to change and a diverse workforce that is representative of our community. You will help drive innovation and content in an energetic newsroom that is excited about the opportunities for local journalism in a digital age. Editing experience is desired, but we are willing to consider an outstanding reporter who has a distinguished body of enterprise work and wants to make the leap into newsroom management.
You must demonstrate the vision, judgment and skills that produce superior content across all platforms our audience uses to engage with our journalism. You will be expected to:
- Coach a team of reporters to produce daily stories, online posts, videos and social media engagement while creating high-impact enterprise.
- Edit content on deadline for accuracy, clarity, style and impact.
- Publish and promote content on our website and social media channels in ways that engage and expand our audience.
- Collaborate with other members of the newsroom management team to meet shared goals.
- Uphold standards for quality, productivity and journalistic integrity.
Strong social media skills are essential. Spanish-language, data analysis and multimedia production skills are a plus. This position will involve night and weekend work. It is based in Santa Rosa, California, located an hour north of San Francisco in the heart of Sonoma County's renowned Wine Country, where vineyards give way to redwood forests and a scenic coast. The region, home to 650,000 people, is an international destination for tourists and produces some of the best food, wine and beer on the planet. Two colleges, along with thriving tech, farm and government sectors make this region of diverse communities a beautiful place to live and a dynamic place to pursue quality journalism.
